Transportation to and from Chicago's O'Hare International Airport
Getting to O'Hare (ORD)
If you're heading out to ORD (which, by the way, nobody calls it...unlike LAX or JFK), the best way to get there from downtown Chicago is to take the CTA's Blue Line (which you can pick up almost anywhere in downtown Chicago). Traffic on the Kennedy Expressway, the major road leading to O'Hare from downtown Chicago is HIGHLY unpredictable, and can go from a base travel time of about 18 minutes, to 90 minutes or more with one stall or accident. If it's snowing, it can take up to 3 hours to travel the 15 miles between "Hubbard's Cave" and the terminal. WBBM AM 720 radio in Chicago has the best traffic ("every 10 minutes on the eights"), and we're listing some links below in our "Sweet Chicago Links" section.
